Hi there!

My name's Katie and I've just published my debut book - a collection of poems for children! Feelings: Poems For Kids and Their Grown-ups is an illustrated collection of poems, which explores emotions in a fun and accessible way for children. The rhythm, rhyme, and imagery in each poem, alongside the colourful illustrations, communicate clearly how feelings can be experienced, and how they can come and go.

My poems are for children to enjoy reading aloud with their grown-ups, or to read alone. Either way, they are designed to help children identify and understand some of the difficult feelings that they experience. The book is a must-read for any teachers and parents who want help to start a conversation to improve children's emotional literacy and self-regulation. I include ideas and techniques throughout, that children can use to manage uncomfortable feelings, express themselves, and develop behaviour habits that work well for them.

About Me

Day to day, I'm a children's yoga and mindfulness teacher, who teaches lessons in schools and in my local community. I live in Manchester with my husband and three children. Formerly an English teacher, I love incorporating stories and poetry into my yoga lessons.

I took a career break from teaching when my children were very young. They are now 6, 10 and 12. In recent years, I've worked in primary schools and became certified in supporting mental health in educational settings. In 2021, I started teaching children's yoga full-time, and founded my yoga company Imagine Breathe Achieve. All of my work is created through a blend of my skills and experience as a parent, teacher, yoga teacher, and a mental health advocate.

I have enjoyed reading and writing poetry since I was at school, inspired and encouraged by a wonderful English teacher. The first poetry book I remember reading was Don't Put Mustard In The Custard by Michael Rosen, whose books I have loved reading to my own children as they have grown up. I hope that Feelings: Poems For Kids and Their Grown-ups can be enjoyed for as many years by the families who will be reading them today.

When I'm not reading, writing, or teaching children's yoga, I enjoy running, lifting weights, and listening to music and podcasts. I like family days out and big get-togethers with my large extended family. I also enjoy gardening and cooking vegan food!
